Last year in April, just before the warranty ran out, I had a DPF warning light appear, my local garage said it was not covered, but advised me to give it a good long run. I did this and cleared the message.
When you add diesel cars to diesel SUVs the growth is staggering: up from about 92,000 new diesel vehicles sold in 2008 to more than 164,000 in 2013. That’s a rise of almost 80 per cent. Diesels offer staggering economy compared with petrol – typically 30 per cent more, as well as three to four times the torque production of a petrol engine

Once the ECU bracket is off, you can move it out of the way and the filter is very easy to access. You can pick up the cap for taking off the fuel filter head on ebay for a few johnnies so that would be the cheapest way to get it. I think the official cap head is about 60 euro at honda. I used a bulb primer to suck up the diesel in the filter.
The Mazda 2.2 engine is affected by DPF issues - though it's certainly better than the previous 2.0, which many owners feel was simply unfit for purpose. The DPF seems to go into self regenerate mode an awful lot, which injects extra fuel to raise the temp in the filter. It does this even if you're on a fast motorway journey. w5WDRb.
