TL;DR: The Last of Us ignore the basic principles of establishing character development to such a massive extent that it seems like amateur writing. In the last episode, we don't see a justification for Joel to change, and yet he does. People call that "character development", when it's simply flawed writing. They absolutely both exist to make money. TLOU was chosen because it has an incredible story and that’s what they’re focusing on. OP was essentially asking for more gameplay elements to be brought into the show. All I was saying was what works in a video game isn’t going to work in a tv series or movie.
